Narvik 2029 has appointed Peter Anderson as Assistant Sports Director, strengthening the organization as preparations intensify for the Alpine World Cup events in 2027 and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2029.
The position attracted significant international interest, with candidates from around the world applying for the opportunity to help shape one of the most ambitious winter sports projects in Europe.
– We have seen tremendous international interest in this role, which reflects both the scale of the project and the excitement surrounding Narvik’s future as a major alpine venue. We had several outstanding candidates throughout the process, and we are very pleased to welcome Peter to the team, says Narvik 2029 CEO Knut-Eirik Dybdal.
Anderson will work closely alongside Sports Director Atle Skårdal to deliver the sporting operations for the World Cup events in 2027 and 2028, and ultimately the World Championships in 2029.
Although American, Anderson is a familiar name within Norwegian alpine skiing. For the past five years, he has served as Head Coach of the Norwegian Alpine Ski Team, helping guide some of the world’s top athletes on the international circuit.
According to Dybdal, Anderson brings expertise that perfectly complements the experience and strengths already within the local organizing committee.
– Peter brings additional strengths in organizational development, planning and structure. Together, they form a highly complementary leadership team for the years ahead, says Dybdal.
With the first World Cup event scheduled for 2027, three decades after Narvik last hosted Alpine World Cup racing, Narvik 2029 is now expanding its operational capacity to ensure all key systems, procedures and planning structures are in place well ahead of the events. Anderson will officially begin his new role on October 1, 2026.
– We are entering a crucial phase of preparations. With the World Cup events approaching and development work progressing according to plan, we see a clear need to strengthen the organization now. Bringing Peter on board already this autumn will significantly enhance our ability to prepare for both the World Cup races and the World Championships, says Dybdal.
This appointment marks another important step in Narvik 2029’s journey towards delivering world-class alpine events and creating a lasting legacy for the sport in Northern Norway.
