Narvik 2029 has appointed Linn Baarlid as volunteer manager. Over the coming years, she will lead the development and management of the volunteer programme for the World Cup events in 2027 and 2028, as well as the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2029, where approximately 2,000 volunteers will play a vital role in delivering the event.
Volunteers are at the heart of major sporting events, and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Narvik will require approximately 2,000 volunteers across a wide range of functions and responsibilities. As Volunteer Manager, Baarlid will have overall responsibility for volunteer recruitment, coordination, training, and engagement in the years leading up to the championships.
Narvik 2029 CEO Knut-Eirik Dybdal is highly pleased with the appointment.
– Linn brings the combination of experience, organizational skills, and personal qualities that are essential for success in this role. She has extensive experience in volunteering and event management, is a strong communicator, and has a clear understanding of how great volunteer teams are built. At the same time, we see her as inclusive and genuinely motivated to creating a community. This will be invaluable as we build the team that will deliver world-class events, says Dybdal.
Baarlid is looking forward both to becoming part of the Narvik community and to the challenges ahead.
– I am very much looking forward to getting to know the city and the local community. I am also excited to explore the beautiful surroundings and enjoy the outstanding nature, both in winter and summer, says Baarlid.
She emphasizes that the opportunity to build a large volunteer community is what motivates her most.
– It is incredibly exciting to have the opportunity to work on such a large and complex event. I look forward to assembling a volunteer team made up of people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and skills, and to seeing what we can achieve together when everyone is working towards a common goal. Volunteers create the atmosphere, energy, and experiences that surround an event, and I am excited to help build an environment where people thrive, develop, and want to be part of the journey towards 2029, she says.
Over the coming years, Narvik 2029 will grow significantly as an organization. Recruiting, developing, and retaining volunteers will be one of the most important success factors on the road to the 2029 World Championships.
– We are not simply recruiting volunteers for an event. We are building a movement and a community that will leave a lasting legacy. Linn will play a central role in this work, and we are delighted to welcome her to the team, says Dybdal.
Linn currently serves as youth development manager at the Norwegian Athletics Federation, where she leads national projects and initiatives for young athletes. She holds a master’s degree in sport science with a specialization in sport management from the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences and will officially begin her new role on December 1, 2026.
