Historic Alpine World Championship to Norway!

30/07/2024

Ready for a spectacular Championship in Narvik 2029.

The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has awarded the Norwegian Ski Association (NSF) and Narvik Municipality the 2029 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.

«This is a big day for Norwegian skiing, and thanks to everyone who has contributed to bringing the championship to Norway. The FIS World Championships is one of the world’s largest sports events and is followed by TV viewers all over the world. Norway has for decades marked itself as one of the world’s best alpine nations, and finally we can experience a alpine world championship at home», says ski president Tove Moe Dyrhaug.

Narvik competed with two other very strong applicants, Andorra and Italian Val Gardena. Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alpin VM 2029 AS, Knut-Eirik Dybdal, cheers on the award. He believes that Ski-Norway and Northen Norway have lifted the championship project together with a close and good cooperation for many years.

«We are now looking forward to the next stage together with the Norwegian Ski Federation, the municipalities, the business in the regions and many others. I am humble about the demanding work that awaits, but first and foremost we are looking forward to creating a fantastic FIS Alpine World Ski Championships,» says Dybdal.

Narvik’s Mayor Rune Edvardsen was present at the FIS meeting in Reykjavik:

«This is a fantastic day for Norway, Northern Norway and Narvik. Many have made this possible; a backing from all countys and municipalities in northern Norwegian, national authorities and the Norwegian Ski Association,» he says.
