This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from the International Ski Federation (FIS) to the first coordination meeting for the 2029 Alpine World Championships in Narvik.
The Norwegian Ski Federation, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Narvik Municipality and Narvikfjellet Almenn AS are united in hosting the event.
Coordination Meeting
During the coordination meeting, FIS was provided with an overview of the World Championship organization, plans for further recruitment, and the structure of the organizing body.
The FIS Delegation were also introduced to plans and timelines for the mountain infrastructure, reviewed the sport program and race courses, discussed future World Cup events, and concluded with a review of the reports and a summary of the course inspection.
Site Inspection
They also had a guided tour of the venue, the spectator areas, the city, and the Alpine facility at Ankenes, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the locations for various parts of the championship.

First Coordination Meeting in Narvik, April 2025
Despite challenging weather conditions, including heavy snow showers and limited visibility during the course inspections, the FIS delegation was impressed by the venue’s location and the breathtaking views. They found the technical plans for the courses and safety measures to be adequate and well-structured.
