His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon has accepted the invitation to become a member of the Organising Committee for the Alpine World Ski Championships in Narvik in 2029. His participation highlights both the national importance and the international significance of the event.

“We are very pleased that the Crown Prince wishes to contribute to this important work. His involvement is an inspiration as we continue our preparations towards 2029,” says Chair of the Organising Committee and President of the Norwegian Ski Federation, Tove Moe Dyrhaug.

A Broadly Composed Committee

The Organising Committee serves as an advisory body to the Board of the World Championships organisation and includes representatives from key sectors of society. In addition to the Crown Prince and the Ski Federation President, the committee consists of representatives from the Norwegian Ski Federation, Narvik Municipality, the county authorities of Northern Norway, the Armed Forces, the police, academia, the tourism industry, and key stakeholders in skiing and venue operations.

The committee will provide strategic advice in the planning and delivery of the championships and will meet on a quarterly basis.

Key Decisions Ahead of 2029

Matters such as the annual budget and accounts, competition programme, venue and facility plans, as well as other major strategic decisions, will be presented to the Organising Committee prior to Board approval.

Planning and delivery of the championships will be carried out in close cooperation with the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), in line with the host agreement.

With the Crown Prince joining the team, Narvik 2029 further strengthens its visibility, engagement, and ability to deliver a world-class championship.
