26/01/2026

– Alpine World Championships 2029 Organization Now Complete

The Alpine World Championships in Narvik has taken a major step forward in its preparations for 2029. With the appointment of Atle Skårdal as Sports Director, the final key position in the core organization is now filled — a milestone that CEO Knut-Eirik Dybdal describes as crucial for the road ahead.

We have worked long and thoroughly to secure this part of the organization. Atle brings a unique combination of competence, expertise, and international experience. We are extremely pleased that he has accepted the position, says Dybdal.

A highly experienced international profile

Skårdal has an extensive background both as a top-level athlete and as a leader in international alpine skiing. He previously served as head coach for the women’s national team in the Norwegian Ski Federation and was the FIS Race Director for the women’s World Cup for several years.

Course development and venue optimization have been central responsibilities for him at FIS — expertise that will be essential as the World Championship courses in Narvik are refined and prepared for 2029.

Atle knows exactly what it takes to create excellent and safe competition conditions. He has already contributed to the further development of the courses originally designed by Didier Defago for the bid, and he will play a key role in ensuring quality and safety across all disciplines, Dybdal explains.

A strong organization ready for the next phase

With Skårdal in place, the core organization now consists of:

  • Knut-Eirik Dybdal, CEO
  • Roger Fagerheim, Chief Financial Officer
  • Atle Skårdal, Sports Director
  • Stine Stenseth, Head of Events
  • Victoria Bakken, Head of Sales and Marketing

Now the team is complete, and we are ready to accelerate into the next phase of preparations. This marks the beginning of an intensive and exciting period leading up to the championships, says Dybdal.
