Earlier this month, the International Ski Federation announced that Narvik will host the 2026 Junior World Ski Championships in Alpine Skiing.

The Junior World Ski Championships in Alpine Skiing is an annual event organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS), first held in 1982. During the championship, world champions are crowned in the disciplines of downhill, Super-G, giant slalom, slalom, and combined. The athletes competing will be between the ages of 16 and 21.

The date for the championship: March 5th – 15th, 2026.

The award was announced by Erik Plener, the acting leader of the organizing committee, who looks forward to welcoming the world’s top junior athletes to Narvik next season. Plener has played a central role in securing the 2029 Alpine World Ski Championships for Narvik.

In addition to offering all visiting athletes and support teams a smoothly organized championship in a unique environment, we aim to strengthen local organizational capabilities and attract new volunteers, says Plener.

Narvik was originally set to host the Junior World Championships in 2020, but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of preparations for the 2029 World Championships, Narvik will also host the World Cup season finale in 2028, a «test event,» according to Plener.
